Opal, Ruby & Diamond Earrings

These Opals change color with the light. Usually they appear iridescent blue, sometimes there are flashes of red or green - but always very colorful. Four tear-drop Opals arranged in a cross are enhanced by a bright red Ruby and a rose-cut Diamond. These are set in 18k gold with sterling silver backing. Earrings hang on 18k gold ear wires.

Opal is made up of silica and a small percentage of water and is not actually a crystal. There are tiny silica spheres within the silica and water that can cause light diffraction. Opals have been used in jewelry throughout history. In Roman times the Opals were thought to bring good luck and hope.

Ruby is one of the highest prized colored gemstones because of its rich glowing red color. It can range from deep red to pink. The most desired color is a strong pure red to red with a hint of blue. If the color of Ruby is light is classified as Pink Sapphire. Historically it was thought that the owner of a Ruby was assured a life of peace and plenty. Ruby has long been attributed with the ability to protect its wearer from injury and to cure blood disorders. It is also said to provide its wearer with energy, emotional strength, positive attitude, heightened awareness and focus. In traditional Hindu belief systems, Ruby is associated with Muladhara, or the base chakra. This chakra is concerned with Kundalini; spiritual energy, the power of pure desire, divine consciousness, opening of the mind and natural energy of the self.

Diamond is one of the hardest substances on earth. It is a crystal of pure carbon. Diamonds come in many colors. They symbolize durability, intensity, and purity. They have been treasured for thousands of years and valued for their magical properties. Kings and queens thought that they could provide access to higher powers and increased intuition.
